AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Tavrichesky Muftiyat) hosted an international scientific conference “The work of Muslims Religious Administrations of Russia during a coronavirus pandemic: New Approaches in Social Service” in Sevastopol on last week-end.
The scientific event was organized together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, the Ministry of Internal Policy, Information and Communications of the Republic of Crimea; Fund for Support of Islamic Culture, Science and Education (Moscow).
The scientific and practical conference was dedicated to the situation with the spread of the new coronavirus infection in 2020 and related restrictions, including on the work of religious institutions, religious sites, religious figures, and teachers of the basics of religion, children’s religious and educational projects.
The event was attended by the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, the governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev and the spiritual leaders of the Muslims of Russian regions. The muftis and representatives of Muslim religious organizations, university professors and scientists talked about politics, the fight against COVID-19, as well as discussed the development of interethnic relations. In addition, the muftis of Azerbaijan, Estonia and Belarus took part in the event via Internet.
"The significance of this conference is very great for us, because the experience of spiritual management, the experience of other religious communities in the fight against the pandemic and in working in time of a pandemic is very important for us. Our goal is to serve not only the Muslim society, but all humanity, all people living in the Republic of Crimea. Therefore, together with government agencies and medical institutions we are ready to carry out our service,” said the mufti of the Crimea Haji Emirali Ablaev.
“Thanks to this interaction, we, fortunately, have passed the period of coronavirus. We work to support the healthcare system, which is taking care of every human life. Many honorable people died ahead of time, and this is the biggest loss. Therefore, under the current conditions, our approaches and methods of work are aimed at avoiding infection and not putting close relatives at risk. Thanks to this, life continues to move on, the economy is moving forward as well,” said Sergei Aksyonov.
During the panel discussions of the conference, the participants considered the issues of Russian Islamic education and educational activities of Muslim organizations during the pandemic, the use of digitalization and a variety of new practices in the work of religious institutions.
