2020 Japan International Festival of Disabled Artists

Iranian disabled artist grabs second place prize at an international Festival in Japan

The 2020 Japan International Festival of Disabled Artists was held in Tokyo with the participation of artists from 33 countries, including Iran, with motto of "peace" and the second prize of the festival was awarded to a disabled Iranian artist from Sistan and Baluchistan Province and the Iranian Cultural Mission"s Award was presented to a Japanese artist.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The 2020 Japan International Festival of Disabled Artists was held in Tokyo with the participation of artists from 33 countries, including Iran, with motto of "peace" and the second prize of the festival was awarded to a disabled Iranian artist from Sistan and Baluchistan Province and the Iranian Cultural Mission"s Award was presented to a Japanese artist.

According to the Public Relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO)  the ceremony was attended by Iranian Cultural Attaché in Tokyo, Hossein Divsalar, a group of artists and representatives of participating countries.

The ceremony began with the announcement of the winners of different sections of the festival and Ms. Mehrnaz Bahrami from Sistan and Baluchestan Province (Zahedan) who has a severe disability was awarded the second prize of the festival.  

Presenting her work "Peace from Within", Ms. Mehrnaz Bahrami in a video message thanked the organizers as well as the Iranian Cultural Attaché for following up and coordinating the formalities and procedures of the festival. Referring to the 1300-year-old historical and cultural relations between Iran and Japan she said I am glad that my work "inner peace", which is everyone"s desire for peace and friendship in the world has been appreciated and won a prize adding that , the two great countries of Iran and Japan have more than 1300 years of historical and cultural relations and respect each other, and hope I can play a role, however small in promotion of Tehran-Tokyo relation.

The Cultural Attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Japan also selected a work by a disabled Japanese artist titled "Linking Wishes" and presented the artist an Iranian made handicraft and a collection of magazines and books in Japanese language. Other disabled Iranian artists also offered judges" awards.

In this occasion and as the previous ones, the Iranian Cultural Attaché has worked closely with the festival officials in Japan and while providing extensive information, has establishing relevant contacts to facilitate presence of Iranian artists in this festival in cooperation with the General Directorate of Cultural Cooperation of Expatriates Iranians, affiliated with the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization. More than 200 works by disabled Iranian artists (a total of 400 works from 33 countries were sent to  the festival), highest number among participants has taken part in this festival and in addition to awarding the second prize to and Iranian artist, 26 other Iranian works also received awards in various categories, which will be published in the book of this round of the festival.

Accepted works in this festival include paintings by colored pencils, acrylic paints, watercolors, oil paints, or paper crafts, calligraphy and handmade floral embroidery.

In 2018, when the festival was held with the theme of "Celebration and Festival", the Iranian Cultural Mission in Japan presented more than 250 works to the festival, which finally 6 works by Iranian artists in the final section received awards from among 50 works. It was published in the book of the festival and among the 41 participating countries, the highest attendance was from Islamic Republic of Iran.
