AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): American polymath Noam Chomsky, who is a linguistician of world renown, has stated that the assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani has clearly indicated that the U.S. is a "rogue state" that has no respect for international law.

“The murder of Soleimnai… is an extraordinarily dangerous act. Nothing like that happened during the Second World War or during the Cold War,” Professor Chomsky stated in an interview on Wednesday.

“It’s as if Iran had decided to murder (U.S. Secretary of State) Mike Pompeo and a major general along with him at Mexico City International Airport. We take that pretty serious and that is what the murder of Soleimani was,” he said.

“Incidentally, it is praised here which is pretty astonishing; it shows how extreme the internal assumption is, that the United States is a rouge state, which has nothing to do with international law or obligations,” he added.

The American professor also discussed the U.S. unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, stating that Trump’s actions on Iran have only increased Washington-Tehran tensions.

The pullout, he added, was a clear “violation of international law” as the agreement was authorized by the United Nations Security Council, he said in reference to UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

U.S. President Trump ordered a lethal drone strike on General Soleimani’s vehicle on his arrival in Baghdad International Airport on January 3 at the invitation of the government of Iraq.

The deadly attack also caused the death of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), in addition to eight other Iranians and Iraqis.

Both commanders were highly popular due to the significant role they had in eliminating the U.S.-sponsored ISIS terrorist group in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria.

Professor Noam Chomsky, who is believed to be one of the greatest scientists of our time, is an outspoken critic of the Unites States and its foreign policies regarding, in particular, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
