Boko Haram ambush terror group in Nigeria kills 18

The Nigerian military says 18 people were killed on Sunday after an ambush by the Boko Haram terrorist group on a government convoy in the north-east of the country.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA):  The Nigerian military says 18 people were killed on Sunday after an ambush by the Boko Haram terrorist group on a government convoy in the north-east of the country.

A Nigerian military spokesperson, John Enenche, said in a statement that 18 people including four soldiers, 10 policemen, and four civilians were killed during the ambush.

The victims died after their vehicles, which were in pursuit of Boko Haram terrorists, ran into several Improvised Explosive Devices(IED) planted in the routes and exploded, Enenche said.

He said troops on hot pursuit of the insurgents successfully recovered three vehicles in a nearby village, adding the army has deployed more IED and bomb disposal teams and equipment to the region to prevent future incidents of such nature.

The violence by Boko Haram, which is linked to the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group, has spread to neighbouring countries, killing more than 30,000 people and forcing two million from their homes, according to the UN.

Despite regional efforts to end Boko Haram's campaign of violence, the group has stepped up its attacks in recent months.
