Sheikh Zakzaky attends yet another fruitless court session, maintains his innocence (+Video)

Today, another session of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife’s trial was held. In the court session, the Kaduna state government once again accused Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife of a number of atrocities.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Today, another session of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife’s trial was held. In the court session, the Kaduna state government once again accused Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife of a number of atrocities.

The lawyer stated that they demanded that the court drop all the charges against Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife immediately. The judge, however, decided that the ruling could not be given at this time.

At the beginning of today's session, the prosecutor read the complete list of the accusations against Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife. But Sheikh Zakzaky denies all the charges.

Moreover, the judge complained about the presence of too many government security forces, which caused great trouble for people living and working in the area, and asked that such behavior not be repeated.

People present in the area complained that police forces disrupted their daily activities.

"Whenever there’s a court session, the police officers don’t allow us to carry on with our daily activities. We came out to get our daily bread, but police forces stop us from doing that especially in this time during the rainy season. How can we get our daily bread for our family?"

Eventually, the session has come to an end. And the judge announced that the next court session will be held on November 18 and 19.

Sheikh Zakzaky has been detained many times due mainly to accusations of civil disobedience or recalcitrance under military regimes in Nigeria during the 1980s and 1990s, and is unfortunately still viewed with suspicion or as a serious threat by Nigerian authorities.

In December 2015, the Nigerian Army attacked his residence in Zaria, and seriously injured him, killing hundreds of his followers. Ever since, he has been under state detention in the nation's capital pending his release. It is hoped that the November court sessions will be followed by a ruling on his and his wife's immediate and unconditional release.
