AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ahlul bait (A.S) Foundation of South Africa (AFOSA) sent a message of condolences over the passing of Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, a member of Iran’s Expediency Council.

The full text of the message is as follow:

MESSAGE OF CONDOLANCE
MARHOUM AYATULLAH TASKHIRI
A CALLER OF UNITY AND DEFENDER OF THE SCHOOL

It is with a deep sense of sadness that AHLUL BAIT (A.S) FOUNDATION OF SOUTH AFRICA (AFOSA) received the news of the passing away of its one patrons, Ayatullah Taskhiri, A great Scholar, thinker, Poet, Author of hundreds of books and articles and a Legendary Personality of our times.

Ayatullah Taskhiri was among the shining stars of the progressive school of thought of Grand Thinker, Shaheed Ayatullah Baqir al-Sadr who presented and defended Islam in a most compelling manner.

A close ally of our Leader Ayatullah Khamenei who participated in hundreds of conferences and seminars representing Islam, school of Ahlul Bait as well as Islamic Republic of Iran.

A caller of Unity & Defender of the School whose most important lesson was that one can be promotor of Unity among different Islamic schools of thought and even proximity among diverse faith traditions, while simultaneously being a firm believer and staunch supporter of one's own Aqidah.

Ayatullah Taskhiri had a passion for the propagation of the message of Ahlul Bait (a.s) and was one of the founders of the Ahlulbait (a.s.) World Assembly (International body representing followers of Ahlulbait) and was the First Secretary General of this Assembly from 1990 to 1999. It is through this structure that he was intimately involved in the early growth of the School of Ahlul Bait (a.s) in South Africa.

In 1993 on recommendation of the Executive Council of the above Assembly, he appointed me as the representative of the Assembly in South Africa.

In the following years He continued to show a keen interest in the growth of the school of Ahlul Bait (a.s) in South Africa.

At the same time, in later years he was appointed as the head of Majma at Taqribbain al Madhahib al-Islamiyyah (The World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought) that brought Muslims from all Schools of Thought onto a common platform wherein the efforts of Marhoom was felt in South Africa too when leading Muslim organizations from our country participated in these unity efforts and acknowledged his role in this regard.

He was also Vice President of the international union for Muslim Scholars for a short period of time led by Sh Yousuf Qardawi.

He also among the Muslim scholars who were signatories of the Amman Message in 2005 which gives a broad foundation for defining Muslim orthodoxy recognizing eight Schools of Thought in Islam. His shining example of academic excellence, wisdom, promoting Unity of Muslim Ummah, inflexible commitment to the School, guidance and affection for our community will be missed.

May Almighty Allah bless his soul and grant him a high place in Jannah and to be in the service of Prophet Muhammad (sawa) and the Ahlul Bait (a.s).
