(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A prominent ISIS leader was struck by the warplanes of the anti-IS global coalition on Saturday on the outskirts of Mosul, Iraqi media reported.

Unconfirmed reports state that the warplanes belonging to the coalition forces targeted a convoy of the IS militants near Mosul which killed a number of militants, including a group's leader named Abu Omar.

Abu Omar who was from al-Samara town in Salahaddin province and one of the closest figures to the IS leader Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi, was reportedly in charge of the prisoners captured by the extremist group in Mosul.

Apart from losing swathes of its held territories in 2016 alone, IS has also been suffering from the elimination of its top leaders this year.
