Iraq: Senior ISIS leader arrested in Kirkuk

Kurdish security forces arrested an ISIS leader along six other terrorists in Kirkuk who are believed to be responsible for the assassination of a Peshmerga commander.

Kurdish security forces arrested an ISIS leader along six other terrorists in Kirkuk who are believed to be responsible for the assassination of a Peshmerga commander.

Director of Kirkuk police Sarhad Qadir revealed that Thursday that after monitoring the targets and gathering intelligence, Kirkuk security forces could arrest seven ISIS members, including the leader of the group named ‘Yaser Mohammed’.

According to Qadir, the arrestees are responsible for the assassination of Kurdish Peshmerga Commander Hamakhan Haji Dara in Daquq district, south of Kirkuk.

“The group was also involved in several other terrorist attacks across the province,” the Kurdish official added.

Earlier this week, the Kurdish counter-terrorism forces conducted a unique operation inside ISIS-held territories near Mosul and killed a senior commander of the group. He was know responsible for leading IS offensives against Peshmerga forces on Makhmour frontline.
