Iraqi Forces Liberate Areas of Anbar from ISIS

Iraqi forces have liberated more areas from the ISIS terrorist group as they launch a major offensive to retake the city of Hit from the Takfiri terrorists in the western province of Anbar.

Iraqi forces have liberated more areas from the ISIS terrorist group as they launch a major offensive to retake the city of Hit from the Takfiri terrorists in the western province of Anbar.

Led by the elite Counter-Terrorism Service, forces from the police, army and local tribal fighters were making a final push to retake Hit, 145 kilometers (90 miles) west of Baghdad.

"They have begun a broad operation to liberate Hit and Kubaysa," he leader of Anbar Operations Command Major General Ali Ibrahim Dabon, the head of the Anbar Operations Command.

Kubaysa is a smaller town a few miles west of Hit, a key hub along the Euphrates that the ISIS terrorists have controlled since October 2014.

Dabon said Iraqi security forces and tribal fighters had retaken a cement plant west of Kubaysa and raised the Iraqi flag there.

Meanwhile al-Hashed al-Sha’bi volunteer forces on Friday killed 18 ISIS terrorists in battles aimed to liberate the areas located in central al-Karma east of Fallujah.

The commander of the First Regiment belonging to the 30th Brigade within al-Hashed al-Sha’bi militia, Colonel Mahmoud al-Jumaili, said in a press statement sadi, “The joint security forces conducted a military operation to liberate the areas of al-Subaihat, Albu Jasim and al-Shahabi in central al-Karma (19 km east of Fallujah), resulting in the death of 18 [ISIS] elements.”

Military sources say Fallujah’s liberation will be followed by the long-anticipated offensive to retake Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province in the north, which is viewed as the stronghold of ISIS in Iraq.

ISIS still controls vast areas of Anbar province near the borders with Jordan and Syria, as well as the city of Fallujah, which is only 50 kilometers from Baghdad.
