Saudi Plan to Send Troops to Syria Demonstrates US Failure: Iran's top Commander

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Monday that Riyadh's rhetoric of sending troops to Syria shows the utter failure of US policies in the region.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Monday that Riyadh's rhetoric of sending troops to Syria shows the utter failure of US policies in the region.

"US Defense Secretary (Ash) Carter is supporting and provoking the House of Saud to march to the war (in Syria). This is an indication that he is at loss. It also proves beyond any doubt that they have failed," Firouzabadi said Monday in response to Riyadh's plans to dispatch ground forces to Syria.

Referring to Israel, he said, "The Quds occupying regime is also at loss and fuming. Together with their American and Saudi counterparts they are flogging the dead horse, but they know they are going nowhere," he added.

According to the Iranian commander, "The House of Saud and the United States have no other option but to let go of aggression, bloodshed and empty threats against the regional states. They should also change course to help restore regional peace and stability."

On Thursday, the Saudi Defense Ministry said it stood ready to deploy ground troops to Syria to allegedly aid the US-led anti-ISIL, also known as Daesh, coalition.

Riyadh has been a member of the US-led coalition that has been launching airstrikes against Daesh in Syria since September 2014, without the permission of Damascus or the United Nations. In December 2015, Saudi Arabia started its own Muslim 34-nation coalition to allegedly fight Islamic extremism.

Daesh or ISIL/ISIS is a Wahhabi group mentored by Saudi Arabia and has been blacklisted as a terrorist group everywhere in the world, including the United States and Russia, but Saudi Arabia.

Syria, Tehran and Moscow have issued stern warnings to Riyadh, stressing that the Saudi intruders, who in fact intend to rescue the terrorists that are sustaining heavy defeats these days, will be crushed in Syria.
