US pro-Palestine activist 'Hughes Thompson' passes away

Pro-Palestine human right activist Mary Hughes Thompson, co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement, passed away on February 5, 2021 in Los Angeles, California, after spending long years of her life advocating for justice in Palestine.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Pro-Palestine human right activist Mary Hughes Thompson, co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement, passed away on February 5, 2021 in Los Angeles, California, after spending long years of her life advocating for justice in Palestine.

Thompson was known for her role in organizing anti-siege convoys to Gaza and participating in many West Bank rallies and events to defend Palestinian farmers and their property against violations by settlers and soldiers.

In 2002, she had an arm fracture when extremist settlers physically assaulted her after she made repeated efforts with other peace activists to prevent them from attacking Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest at the time.

In this regard, Palestinian activist Maher Abdul-Qader described the death of Thompson as “a great loss to the Palestinian people” and said she enjoyed international stature and was influential in delivering the Palestinian message to the international community and exposing Israel’s crimes.
