PMF must be equipped with air defences; Existence of documents proving US support for Daesh

Nasr al-Shammari announced the existence of documents and videos proving the United States’ military support for the Daesh terrorist group and called for equipping Popular Mobilization Forces with air defensive systems to counter the attacks of the enemy’s fighters and drones.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Nasr al-Shammari announced the existence of documents and videos proving the United States’ military support for the Daesh terrorist group and called for equipping Popular Mobilization Forces with air defensive systems to counter the attacks of the enemy’s fighters and drones.

According to the Communication and Media Affairs Centre of al-‎Nujaba in Iran‎, in an exclusive interview with the English-language Press TV, Nasr al-Shammari, the spokesman for the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement in Iran, described the American government as having the blackest human rights record and the biggest violator of international law and stated, “If the Iraqi government is serious about upholding the rights of our nation and country, it must file a complaint to Washington to the United Nations Security Council and summon their ambassador to Baghdad because of numerous attacks on Popular Mobilization Forces and disobedience to a parliamentary resolution calling for the immediate of foreign troops.”

Referring to the fact that the Popular Mobilization Forces are under the command of the Iraqi Armed Forces and have not been involved in any anti-American attacks, al-Shammari said, “The occupying forces are targeted by the Islamic Resistance groups. The Iraqi Islamic Resistance has always said that it opposes the presence of foreign forces and has so far openly accepted responsibility for its operations.”

Emphasizing the unity and brotherhood of the Iraqi Armed Forces, including the Popular Mobilization Forces, the army and other security forces, which was manifested in the fight against Daesh terrorism, he added, “One reason for the direct attack on the positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces is the defeat of the repeated attempts by the United States and its mercenaries to create a rift between the military in Iraq.”

The deputy secretary-general of al-Nujaba considered it necessary to equip the Popular Mobilization Forces and said, “Given the martyrdom of dozens of fighters in the airstrikes carried out by the United States, these forces must be armed with anti-aircraft defences capable of countering enemy fighters and drones. In this case, the withdrawal of the occupiers from Iraq will accelerate.”

al-Shammari continued, “American fighter jets patrol and bomb our country night and day. For the Iraqi people, there is no choice but to resist. International law, while not a fair definition of terrorism, also guarantees our nation’s right to target occupiers and aggressors.”

Citing Trump’s confession that Daesh was created and funded by the government of the United States, he said, “Today, if we want to end terrorism in Iraq, we must expel its creator, the United States. We have documents and videos that prove the United States military’s support for Daesh. At the beginning of the rise of Daesh and after the issuance of the jihad al-kifai (collective jihad) fatwa, the Americans did not provide any assistance and the Popular Mobilization Forces alone advanced 200 kilometres from Baghdad to Tikrit. It was there that the Americans showed up to prove themselves victorious.”

The spokesman of al-Nujaba cited Arab regimes around the Persian Gulf as a source of intellectual nourishment and funding for Daesh, adding, “They want to revive Daesh by spending billions of dollars like the United States until they come up with another alternative like the Ba’ath Party and defeat the experience of democracy in Iraq.”

In the final part of the interview with Press TV, al-Shammari gave a brief history of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement and explained, “The situation in Iraq and the region required that the movement begin as a military organization. The members of al-Nujaba were opponents of Saddam’s Ba’athist regime, who were often imprisoned or persecuted during that period and joined the Islamic Resistance after the United States’ occupation of Iraq and were successful in ousting the United States occupying forces (withdrawal of the United States’ troops from Iraq in 2011).”

Regarding the presence of the forces of al-Nujaba in Syria and the fight against the Takfiris, he said, “When the Syrian crisis began, it was clear that Iraq was the next target of the terrorists. They have publicly stated that they seek to establish a government in Iraq and the Levant. The al-Nujaba Movement was one of the leading groups in operations against terrorists in Syria and Iraq, as it acted with the coordination of the government before the issuance of the jihad al-kifai fatwa by the religious authority [Ayatollah al-Sistani] and sacrificed 54 martyrs in defence of Baghdad.”

The senior commander of Iraq’s Islamic Resistance further stated, “After clearing the country of the filth of the Daesh caliphate, a group of members of al-Nujaba have joined the Popular Mobilization Forces structure, and another group, in the form of a military branch, is fighting American forces and United States-backed terrorists in Iraq.”

al-Shammari stressed that “the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance does not consider entering the political arena and electoral activities effective under the influence of the United States Embassy and the presence of the occupying forces” and added, “al-Nujaba’s main field of presence and activity is in social and cultural categories. This movement plays a great role in awakening the people and we consider addressing this area an important task in soft warfare, a war that aims to divide Islamic societies.”
