IRGC destroys terrorist team in northwestern Iran

Forces with Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have destroyed a team of terrorists in the northwest of the country near the border with Turkey, killing seven of its members in the security operation.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Forces with Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have destroyed a team of terrorists in the northwest of the country near the border with Turkey, killing seven of its members in the security operation.

The IRGC announced in a statement that servicemen from its Hamzah Seyyed al-Shuhada base engaged the terrorists as they were trying to infiltrate into the country from the border in Salmas County, West Azarbaijan Province on Tuesday.

Seven terrorists were killed during the operation, said the statement. Two members of Iran’s volunteer Basij forces also lost their lives in the clashes.

IRGC forces regularly engage in clashes with terrorists seeking to carry out acts of sabotage across the country, particularly in the border regions.

The IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base announced in a statement on May 4 that its forces had ambushed members of a terrorist gang in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan, killing two of them and arresting another.

The band, the statement added, had acts of mischief, kidnappings and murder on its record.

During the operation, a cache of weapons, ammunition and explosive materials were also confiscated.

Iran has been a victim of terrorism and international organized crimes, and a pioneer in the fight against them.

More than 17,160 Iranian citizens, including senior officials and nuclear scientists, have been killed by terrorists in recent decades.
