Bahraini prison guards confiscate Nabeel Rajab’s belongings

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) is reporting that its jailed President Nabeel Rajab had his personal belongings confiscated on Monday by guards at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) is reporting that its jailed President Nabeel Rajab had his personal belongings confiscated on Monday by guards at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison.

During a telephone call, Rajab revealed that hundreds of dollars worth of foodstuffs were among the items confiscated.

According to the BCHR, the prominent human rights defender had has cell raided in retaliation to the City Council of Paris awarding him with the Honorary Citizenship of France.

Among those attending the award ceremony in Paris on Monday was Bahraini Shiite cleric and activist Sheikh Maytham al-Salman.

Sheikh Salman told attendees that the award comes at a time of great “symbolism” for the people of Bahrain, noting that civil society in the kingdom had been “silenced and suppressed”.

Rajab shares the award with many champions of democracy and human rights including South Africa’s Nelson Mandela.
