AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Fighters of the Iraq's al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement in the form of the 12th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces carried out a surprise attack on a terrorist hideout in northern Baghdad, killing the governor and the Grand Mufti of Daesh and destroying the remnants of this terrorist group.
According to the Communication and Media Affairs Centre of al-Nujaba in Iran, Iraqi fighters attacked a Daesh hideout in the al-Tarmiyah area of northern Baghdad in a surprise operation on February 21, killing the governor and Grand Mufti of Daesh in the area and arrested some key members of this terrorist group.
The 12th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces, consisting of the forces of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement, entered the area on Saturday morning, began identifying and pursuing Daesh remnants and destroyed a significant number of terrorist hideouts during a night ambush.
The clashes on Saturday evening and Sunday morning led to a large-scale exchange of fire between the two sides, with a large number of rocket attacks by a convoy of personnel carriers and armoured vehicles by al-Nujaba.
According to the report, al-Tarmiyah is now under the control of special fighters of al-Nujaba, and the operation to clear the explosive traps, as well as the pursuit of terrorists fleeing to residential areas and farms, continues.
In this regard, Nasr al-Shammari, the spokesman of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement praised the successful operation in a tweet, writing, “Operation al-Tarmiyah, which led to the capture of one of the most important leaders of Daesh, was brave and courageous in every way.”
Praising the martyrs of the army and Popular Mobilization Forces, al-Shammari called the security forces the shield of security and the guardian of the unity of the country, adding, “It is necessary to continue such operations to trap all of the criminal leaders and thwart the plots of the terrorists in Iraq.”
The head of the Political Council of the al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance Movement also praised the joint anti-terrorist operation of the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces north of Baghdad, stressing that from a security point of view, the operation should have been carried out sooner.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Asadi referred to the threat posed to the capital by undercover terrorists in al-Tarmiyah and expressed satisfaction with the results of the recent attack and called for similar operations in other areas, which Daesh uses as a base to attack the army and Popular Mobilization Forces.
He pointed out, “This achievement does not belong to any of the political leaders but rather to those brave men who defend the country with their blood and bring victory.”
