(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Dozens of Iranian students and clerics have protested in front of the French Embassy in Tehran to condemn the blasphemous depiction of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in a French magazine. The protestors on Sunday shouted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” while waving flags emblazoned with the name of Islam’s prophet. They also held placards calling on all Muslims to break their silence on this sacrilegious act.In a closing statement, the demonstrators told the French statesmen, “You cannot stand against the [wave of] Islamic Awakening. That is why you have resorted to insulting religious sanctities. But be sure that you cannot stop the spread of the Islamic Awakening with these insults.”The protesters also called on the Islamic Republic to adopt the appropriate punitive measure in reaction to the Western government’s shameless support of the recent desecration in a French magazine. On September 19, the French weekly Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The insulting cartoons have triggered worldwide condemnation amid widespread outrage over a US-made film that also insulted the prophet of Islam. The Iranian protestors’ statement said, “The enemies of Islam are destroying themselves with their own foolishness and their obliteration will happen soon.”Protests against the anti-Islam movie as well as the blasphemous cartoons rage on across and beyond the Muslim world, with people calling for the prosecution of the elements behind the blasphemous acts. /129
