(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Police worked with Northamptonshire’s Muslim community to facilitate a successful ground-breaking mosque and madrassah training event in Northampton.Faith Associates, a non-theological consultancy, were commissioned by the police – in consultation with local Muslim leaders from various mosques and civil society organisations – to deliver a two-day mosque governance and management training programme. The programme was delivered to local Imams, madrassah representatives and mosque leaders.A madrassah is a building used for teaching Islamic theology and religious law, typically including a mosque.PC Mark Osborne, who organised the event, said: “The training course was requested following consultation with Muslim community representatives last year.“Following subsequent discussions, it was evident that mosques required a more robust management and governance outlook.“Faith Associates believe that robust management systems should be established by mosques and madrassahs to take into account all aspects of their environment and their increasing role within society.“At the heart of this should be the need to nurture tolerance, conscientiousness and openness and to foster the need for stronger community cohesion and prevent the sources and roots of violent extremism.“And there should also be an acknowledgement that the mosque has a crucial part to play in fostering a safe and sustainable future for the centre and the community it aspires to serve.”Inspector Inam Khan, sector inspector in Northampton North, added: “The attendance of all the key Muslim leaders in Northamptonshire, the sharing of ideas and the enthusiasm shown by everyone made this a resounding success.“This was not a seminar to tell people how to run their mosques and madrassahs in a certain way, but more about making their respective places fit for the needs of their local communities in the best way possible.“The ideas that were generated and the best practice that was shared helped achieve those aims. It is now down to those leaders to lead their communities in a constructive way.”/129
