New Islamic Center in Budapest

The district council of Ujbuda has decided to allow a project to build an Islamic centre, Nepszabadsag daily said on Friday.

The municipal council of the 11th district of Budapest gave the green light for the construction of the first Islamic center in the Hungarian capital, a local newspaper reported on Friday.

 Muslims - whose number is estimated between 30,000 and 50,000 in Hungary - are currently forced to use apartments as a places of prayer or for organizing religious events.

 In 2005, non-governmental organization Charity and Peace, linked to the Islamic Congregation, purchased a large town hall , which must be built a large cultural and religious center with a library.
