The UAE is trying to put pressure on Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to declare a new province under the name of Bab al-Mandab, a mix of districts that follow the provinces of Lahj and Taiz and two islands in the Red sea.
According to the activists, the UAE wants to include Mukha and Dubab and the islands of Bab al-Mandab and some districts of Taiz, such as Al-Wazaiya and Muze in addition to some directorates of Hajj to the south under the banner of a new province called Bab al-Mandab, which may enable the annexation Bab al – Mandab to the scope of its influence in the south.
For its part, Saudi Arabia is pushing for the establishment of a southern framework in exchange for the Saudi-backed transitional council. This was reflected in the movements of the outgoing president, Mansour Hadi and his government, to hold a southern conference in Riyadh.
In Riyadh that there are movements led by southern leaders in Riyadh, Jordan and Cairo towards the convening of a political conference in south, embraced and supported by Riyadh, similar to the conference held in 2011 in Cairo,
The sources pointed out that among the expected outcomes of the Southern Conference to be held in Riyadh is the formation of a Southern political leadership similar to the leadership of the Southern Transition Council, but it supports Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi.
