(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Once again, tens of thousands of Yemenis have taken to the streets of capital Sana’a to show support for the liberation of Palestine and to condemn Zionism. Footage of the rally was published by the Ansarullah Media Center.
Tuesday marked the official 70th anniversary of the Nakba (Catastrophe), marking 7 decades since the proclamation of Israel and the mass ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were either massacred or driven from their land in 1948.
The Nakba commemoration also coincides with the US decision to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to the holy city of Jerusalem (known in Arabic as al-Quds), a move that is illegal according to international agreements. According to UN regulation, the occupation of the city of Jerusalem is illegal.
Protesters, carrying Palestinian flags as well as banners of Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and pictures of its leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, poured into the Bab al-Yemen Square in downtown Sana’a. Under the slogan “Death to America, Death to Israel, Long Live al-Quds”, they condemned the Israeli war crimes against Palestine and the US complicity in this.
Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, Chairman of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee, addressed the crowd.
“We call on the Arab and Islamic nations to form a united army to liberate the occupied Palestinian lands and to restore al-Quds from the Zionist entity to the Palestinian people”, he said, adding that “The “Decisive Storm” [the name of the Saudi invasion of Yemen in 2015] launched by the US-backed Saudi-led coalition against the Yemeni people, should have been directed against Israel, the common enemy of the Arab and Muslim nations.”
The rally further reinforces an earlier position by Supreme Political Council, as the executive branch of the Yemeni government is called, calling the US and Israeli actions an act of “war on the Arab and Muslim nations”.
