Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah praised Bahrainis for showing solidarity with the people of Palestine despite the daunting challenges that they face at home.
(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah praised Bahrainis for showing solidarity with the people of Palestine despite the daunting challenges that they face at home.
“When Quds Day comes and solidarity with Palestine is required, they [the Bahrainis] are present,” Sayyed Nasrallah said on Friday.
The leader of the Lebanese resistance group was speaking on the occasion of International Quds Day – an annual event that falls on the last Friday of Ramadan and sees worldwide rallies in condemnation of the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem (Al-Quds).
The thousands, who took to the streets across Bahrain throughout the day on Friday, burnt Israeli flags and chanted anti-Israeli slogans. A number of gatherings were attacked by Manama’s security forces.
Sayyed Nasrallah noted that Manama has jailed thousands in recent years in its clampdown on dissent, including many of the country’s religious leaders.
He also took a jab at Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifah over a recent tweet in which the top diplomat expressed support for Israeli strikes in Syria.
“The regime in Bahrain is stepping up communication and normalization of ties with Israel … and declaring that Israel has the right to defend itself in [Syria’s] occupied Golan Heights,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.
