(AhlulBayt News Agency) - A 28-year-old Palestinian man died on Friday evening after succumbing to wounds sustained earlier in the day, when he was shot in the stomach by Israeli forces during the ongoing “Great March of Return” across the eastern border of the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza identified the slain Palestinian as Islam Hirzallah, 28, from Gaza City.

Hirzallah was injured with a live bullet in the stomach during protests in eastern Gaza City, and was later pronounced dead at the al-Shifa Hospital.

His death marked the 32nd Palestinian killed during the Great March of Return protests since they began on March 30th.

The ministry added that 968 Palestinians were injured on Friday with live fire and severe tear gas inhalation.

Among the people who were injured with live ammunition were two journalists and 14 medics.

The six-week Great March of Return is set to end on May 15th, the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, or “catastrophe,” leaving some 750,000 Palestinians and millions of their descendants as refugees.

Despite widespread outcry from international rights groups who have condemned Israel’s excessive use of forces against the civilian protesters, Israeli has maintained its open-fire rules for the Gaza border.
