ISIS opens new headquarters in Iraq's Hawija

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The town of Hawija in the west of Kirkuk province is becoming a central haven for ISIS as the terrorist group has started opening new headquarters, a local source said on Tuesday.

The source, who spoke to al-Sumaria News on condition of anonymity, said that ISIS has started opening new headquarters as a replacement of the ones captured by the Iraqi forces.

The headquarters will cover the so-called "Nineveh State, “Dijlah State”, “Salahuddin State” and “Diyala State” in Hawija.

He further added that the high-ranking ISIS members had fled the battles with the Iraqi security forces in Nineveh, before entering Hawija. However, at this point, the group has made the area another stronghold for its militants.

The town and other neighbouring areas in southwest Kirkuk have been under the ISIS control since 2014 when the group emerged in Iraq.
