Gunmen, believed to be members of the Daesh, stopped, over the night, a bus carrying several people from Baghdad as they were on way back from a wedding ceremony in Harz region, south of Baquba, back to the capital passing through the old Baghdad road, south of Diyala, the sources told Alghad Press.
The militants, according to the sources, killed seven people, without the women and children. The victims were transferred to forensic medicine department.
Several officials had warned against security failure on Al-Nahrawan old road, which links between Baghdad and Diyala.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured).
Baghdad has recently seen significant security stability, however, some bomb blasts take place in sporadic regions across the capital every now and then.
