(AhlulBayt News Agency) - President Rouhani chaired the meeting of the Social Council and described resolving social harms as the common concern of the authorities and the people.
Opening the council on Monday, Dr Rouhani added: "The Supreme Leader's special attention to this issue woke the authorities up and brought about a national resolve and public hope for success in reducing social harms".
He also described addressing poverty and unemployment as two main priorities in controlling social harms, stressing scientific approaches, investment and public education as essential steps in doing so.
Underscoring the role of people, NGOs, universities, and the education system in addressing social harms, the President continued: "NGOs being doubled in number in the 11th administration is a great opportunity for organising people's participation in this field".
He also emphasised the significant role of councils, from villages to cities and metropolises, in attracting people's participation for reducing social harms.
On the administration's efforts in the field of entrepreneurship, controlling inflation, considerable increase in pensions, addressing the issue of living in the outskirts of towns, and social services such as insurance and healthcare service, he said: "We all must know that reducing social harms is the best work possible".
Dr Rouhani also referred to Interior Minister Dr Rahmani Fazli's report on considerable decrease in social harms in the 11th administration and described it very promising and a sign of the right path that the administration has taken.
