Iranian, Russian diplomats discuss Yemen crisis

Meeting in Moscow on Friday, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments in the Middle East with a focus on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which has been under a Saudi-led war for three years.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei and the Russian president’s special envoy to the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov, exchanged views about a host of issues, including the ongoing crisis in Yemen.

Meeting in Moscow on Friday, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments in the Middle East with a focus on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which has been under a Saudi-led war for three years.

Sanaei and Bogdanov underlined the importance of paving the way for the dispatch of humanitarian aid to the impoverished Arab country.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights announced in a statement on Sunday that the Saudi-led war has left 600,000 civilians dead and injured since March 2015.

The United Nations says a record 22.2 million Yemenis are in need of food aid, including 8.4 million threatened by severe hunger.

A high-ranking UN aid official recently warned against the “catastrophic” living conditions in Yemen, stating that there is a growing risk of famine and cholera there.
