(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Iranian Parliament Speaker said there is no need for presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan since Afghan people are fully capable of fighting the terrorists.
Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with his Afghan counterpart, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, on the sidelines of the second annual Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments in Seoul on Tuesday, adding that the presence of foreign military forces on Afghanistan soil under the pretext of fighting terrorism has hindered the country’s progress.
He also stressed that Iran would spare no efforts in helping Afghanistan in combating terrorism.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, for his part, said his country is seeking an appropriate solution for eradication of terrorism so that the flames of this scourge would not spread to neighboring countries.
In a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Larijani called on Pakistan to protect his borders against the crossing of terrorists into Iran more closely, saying Iran expects the Pakistani government and army to safeguard shared borders with Iran more seriously.
Sardar Sadiq, for his part, invited Larijani to take part in a meeting on judicial security, energy security and fighting terrorism to be hosted by Pakistan with participation of representatives from China, Turkey, Russia and Afghanistan.
The Iranian parliamentary official also held a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, saying cooperation between the two countries had entered a new phase.
Ogtay Asadov, for his part, stressed that Iran and the Republic pf Azerbaijan support each other’s positions in international meetings.
The 2nd annual Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments opened in South Korean capital Seoul on Monday and will wrap up on Wednesday. Parliamentary leaders from 25 Asian and European countries will discuss ways for further cooperation for Eurasian prosperity during the three-day conference.
