(AhlulBayt News Agency) - An Iranian border guard was martyred in skirmishes with Iraq-based Kurdish militants in Northwestern Iran.
Second Lieutenant Seyed Mohammad Hashemi was martyred and Private Kasra Abdolalizadeh was injured in clashes with the Kurdish terrorists.
The clashes took place near a border checkpoint about 11 km from the Iranian city of Piranshahr early Sunday. One of the assailants was killed and the rest fled the scene to the Iraq.
In a relevant development earlier in June, Iran officially protested to the Iraqi Kurdistan’s authorities following a number of attempts by terrorist groups based in the semi-autonomous region to enter the country and carry out attacks.
The protest came after Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) dismantled three terrorist groups in separate operations in one-week period.
Also on June 5, two Iranian border guards were killed during clashes with the armed bandits near the border city of Sardasht.
The bandits are often based in a mountainous terrain from which they carry out their hit-and-run attacks.
Also in late May, an improvised explosive device (IED) killed an Iranian border guard in the Southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan Province.
Sergeant Alireza Dehmardeh was martyred in the explosive trap planted by terrorists in the city of Sarbaz in Sistan and Balouchestan province.
