Jailed Bahraini opposition leader prevented from receiving periodic cancer screening

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are continuing to deny proper medical care to the jailed opposition leader and cancer survivor, Hassan Mushaima.

The 69-year old is reportedly being prevented from attending a previously scheduled doctor’s appointment, during which he is meant to receive his periodic cancer screening.

According to his family, he requires a PET scan every six months. Mushaima, who served as the secretary-general of the Haq Movement, is currently in remission for lymphoma cancer.

He was designated as a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International after being sentenced to life in prison over charges stemming from his calls for democratic reforms in Bahrain.
