(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The Diraz Youth Movement is calling for widespread participation in the upcoming anti-regime protests scheduled for Thursday.
The demonstrations are being organized to denounce the continuing house arrest of Bahrain’s highest religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim, as well as other abuses being perpetrated by Manama’s security apparatus.
Describing the situation on the ground as “tragic”, the movement also called for local residents to resist the unprecedented siege of Diraz, which has been in place since June of last year.
The siege was imposed after Sheikh Qassim had his citizenship revoked and his supporters responded by organizing a peaceful sit-in near his home. In May, security forces attacked the sit-in, killing five people before placing the cleric under house arrest.
