Bahrain's Diraz sit-in trial postponed

One of Bahrain’s largest mass trials involving 169 defendants was postponed yet again on Monday. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 9.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): One of Bahrain’s largest mass trials involving 169 defendants was postponed yet again on Monday. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 9.

The group is being tried for taking part in a sit-in near the home of the country’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim, which was attacked by Manama’s security forces last May.

Aside from the hundreds of arrests, five people were killed, and Sheikh Qassim was placed under house during the raid.

In January, 140 defendants in the case were freed on bail. Others who face more serious charges including assaulting police officers remain in detention.
