Bahraini opposition figure being held at Manama airport

The Secretary General of Bahrain’s Unitary National Democratic Assemblage Hassan Marzooq is reportedly being held at the International Airport in Manama.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Secretary General of Bahrain’s Unitary National Democratic Assemblage Hassan Marzooq is reportedly being held at the International Airport in Manama.

Earlier on Tuesday, Marzooq managed to post a Tweet saying only that he was ‘stopped’ by the authorities upon returning from Beirut and that he was not presented with allegations of any wrongdoing.

Marzooq travelled to the Lebanese capital to take part in the annual Arab International Forum for Justice in Palestine.

In recent months, the opposition figure faced repeated harassment from Manama’s security apparatus.

His group’s former Secretary General Fadhel Abbas Mahdi Mohamed was jailed in 2015 for allegedly “spreading false information” after his party accused a Saudi-led coalition of violating international law in Yemen.
