Bahraini eulogist remanded in custody

Bahraini eulogist Mahdi Sahwan has been remanded in custody for 15 days after being summoned for questioning on Sunday.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini eulogist Mahdi Sahwan has been remanded in custody for 15 days after being summoned for questioning on Sunday.

The public prosecutor’s office decided to detain Sahwan pending a further investigation over his participation in annual Ashura commemorations.

Scores of other Bahrainis specializing in Islamic ceremonial singing, which is crooned during Ashura, have been jailed in recent weeks.

Sahwan received a 6-month prison term in early 2017 over his participation in a sit-in outside the home of Bahrain’s highest religious authority Sheikh Isa Qassim.
