Bahraini detainees are now expected to dish out nearly USD 20 to pay for their own prison uniforms.
AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini detainees are now expected to dish out nearly USD 20 to pay for their own prison uniforms.
Prominent Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam Al-Saegh reported on Sunday that a shirt and a pair of trousers are being sold for 3.7 Bahraini Dinars (BHD) each, the equivalent of nearly USD 10.
The prisoners are required to wear the uniform in their cells, during visitation hours, court appearances and trips to the hospital.
Back in August, the administration at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison was accused of ‘blackmailing’ detainees by forcing them to pay for blankets, bed sheets and pillows.
The treatment of Bahraini prisoners and conditions in detention facilities have been widely criticized by international rights groups in recent years.
