American analyst: Trump policies a great threat to US, world

The domestic policy and foreign strategy of the administration of US President Donald Trump is a “great threat” to the United States and the rest of the world, says an American author and political analyst.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The domestic policy and foreign strategy of the administration of US President Donald Trump is a “great threat” to the United States and the rest of the world, says an American author and political analyst.

“Being a very angry and disturbed human being…his real goal, which is operating unconsciously, is to make the world pay for his suffering,” Richard Forer, the author of Breakthrough: Transforming Fear into Compassion, said on Monday.

“You can see that in almost every thing he does, including his policy toward undocumented migrant families who were separated at the US-Mexico border and his hostility towards Iran,” Forer said.

“Trump doesn’t listen to anybody; he thinks he knows everything and he’s never read a book in his life,” Forer added.

Trump is now more inclined to rely on his own instincts or the advice of National Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on major policy issues, NBC News reported on Monday.

Trump has turned on Secretary of Defense James Mattis and is now increasingly taking military matters into his own hands, sources told NBC.

Mattis, for example, was kept in the dark as Trump made the decision to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal in May, according to the report.

Trump also did not discuss with Mattis his decision to halt US military exercises with South Korea, which was announced following the landmark summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un earlier this month, the network said.

The development comes as Mattis is embarking on a tour of Asia amid increased tensions with China over trade and what officials call militarization of the South China Sea. He will be visiting Beijing this week.

Mattis’s mission comes as the Trump administration is set to start taxing $34 billion in Chinese goods, while Beijing has promised to impose retaliatory tariffs on American products.
